Just one more lemming ...

LOL, I scored as a TRUE FAN on the latest personality quiz, but a very close second was MINDGAMER. My interpretation? Canon matters to me, particularly characterization and keeping true to the original series, but so long as the characterization remains true (at least in my mind), I like playing with AUs and post series 'what if's'. Strikes me, though, that I've never given enough thought to crafting stories in the 'what if he/they reacted differently or x happened instead' universe. Also AU, but I think I've limited myself by canon when writing in the canon timeframe.

Wanders off to think about that.

For me it is all characterization, if the fanfic writer gets the characters right I can follow them most anywhere!

Exactly what Slip said. If the characterization is right, they can do any damn thing, from Westerns to a planet of sentinels.

But the problem with 'what if they reacted differently' is, the reactions they had are in character, so if you write different reactions, there's a risk of their being seen as OOC. But 'what if x happened instead' could be a lot of fun.
