Just checking to see if I'm loading an icon properly. This was done by Lit_gal from screen caps by Rhianne.

It's wonderful! It even moves! Welcome to the ranks of LJers with icons!

Thank you! I'm so pleased I've figured this out! Okay, now I'm going to have to get a paid site. I've got three lovely icons but I just know I'm want more, lol.

I am considering the same thing. Once you start with the icons, three is definitely not enough:)

Hmm. I'm still doing something wrong, though, because Lit_gal's name should come up with the icon, to give credit where credit is due.

Wish I could offer assistance but regret I am truly clueless at this. If that is supposed to be the case then I have been doing the makers of the wonderful icons I have used a disservice. I do credit in an LJ entry but have no idea how to make the artist's name appear with the icon.

See my longer comment further down on this page--the credit actually only appears on the page which displays all your icons. My understanding of LJ etiquette (admittedly imperfect!) is that you are doing exactly the right thing by giving an inital credit/thanks in a LJ entry.

Yes, I'm feeling the same hunger, now that I know how easy it is to "snag" the icons these talented and generous people are offering. (I think I'm going to give up on making my own; I can't seem to figure out how to make the picture small enough but not too small.) You can feel proud that, unlike me, it didn't take you over a year on LJ to figure this out! And I think the term for doing this is GIP: Gratutitous Icon Post. I've seen that a lot, when folks just want to show off a lovely new icon, and I spent ages trying to guess what the acronym stood for, till, thank goodness, some kind soul wrote it all out.

addendum: I hadn't read the other comments before I posted the above; sorry! The place you give the credit is on the page where you made the icon, http://www.livejournal.com/editpics.bml#upload. You have the two spaces at the top of the box to put the url or file name for the icon itself, then below that you are to identify it by keyword (so that you can choose which one will appear; otherwise, it always goes to the default one, and there's a box to check/uncheck for that). At the bottom where it says "Comment" is where you give the credit to lit_gal. No, that credit will not appear on the icon itself. However, if/when people check out your icon collection (by going to your userinfo page and tapping on your default icon, which appears in the upper right area), they'll then go to a page which has all your icons, and next to them will be the keywords and the credits. It's less like a painter's signature right on the canvas and more like endnotes--in the back of the book, where the reader can hunt them up or not, as she chooses. Go to the userpage of someone who seems to have a number of icons, and you can check this out. Hope that helps!
