LF Format Woes

Okay, I know I should probably know the answer to this, and that I probably haven't paid enough attention to some update or other from the administrators ... but what is going on with my LJ format???? It's been driving me crazy with random background colour changes and random changes in the width of the margins so that my friends page extends off both sides of the screen -- by inches! So, how do I fix this? Thanks!

Mine's doing the same thing. Someone said they were told you could change it back on the modify your site thing but it wouldn't work for them. Supposedly it has something to do with the updates, but I liked mine the way it was!

Annie, looks like it was Jess's gorgeous sparkly greeting to StarWatcher that was the problem and all is well now. I'm glad I yelled for help, though. Now I'll get Jess to teach me how to make sparkly letters and Bev to teach me how to filter messages that make my journal go all screwy!

On another subject, that was sure a monster cyclone that hit Australia! They're so lucky no one was badly hurt. After being alerted by your message, I got onto a news site and found out what was going on. Man, I really spend too much time on the web -- half the time I haven't a clue what's going on in the larger world.

That wasn't what flipped my LJ around. If I find it too distracting, I'll put in a request for help, I guess.

That cyclone (Larry!) was very frightening looking, I'm glad nodoby was killed, and they seem to be getting on with things, as they are so good at doing. I haven't heard from Annie Booker. Do you know if she and family are okay? I've really got to remember where everybody lives! Of course, my family is 1,000 miles away, so what affects them doesn't generally bother me, weather wise.

Annie lives south of Adelaide, which is a very long way from the northeat coast, so she'll be fine. She's busy following up on some personal stuff these days and isn't able to be online as much as she'd like.

Thanks! I didn't think she was in the path, but I didn't know about her family. I really appreciate you telling me.

Sometimes the extending thing happens if someone on your flist posts a large image that is not under a cut. It ends up stretching out your friends page. Once that entry scrolls off the end of your friends page, it will go back to normal.

I think that is definitely the root of your problem, because two of our mutual friends have posted big images recently *g*, and I had the same problem until I moved both of them to a temporary filter (after which all looked fine). Once the images scroll away, I'll stick 'em back in my main filter :-)

I would mention it to them, but that is apparently bad LJ nettiquette...

Um, raising hand, was that me and my birthday message to Linda? I've deleted it and my journal has gone back to normal. (the thought is still there) I had no idea!!!

LOL! You were one of the culprits, yes ;-). As penance, you will been chained to your PC, and forced to read Jim/Blair until bedtime.

Um. I never was very good at thinking up actual punishements. No wonder my kids just laugh at me!

Saying twenty 'hail Blairs' and promising never to do such an evil deed again.

LOL! I'm just in awe that you KNOW how to make those sparkly letters! You can teach me how to do that, and Bev will explain how to filter things and I'll have learned two lessons! And Linda got a great greeting from you, so looks like all's well that end's well! Love the twenty 'hail Blairs' ::grins:: We'll get St. Blair canonized yet!

It's as easy as pie. Just go to my sparkly letters post and click on the letters. It will take you to the 'glitter letter' site and once there you can pick what style you like and what you want to say. Then press submit, cut and paste the coding to your LJ and you'll have sparkly goodness galore. I'm sure there are a gazillion other sites out there like this and I imagine that if you find another one you like that you simply do the same thing.

See, easy!

Geez, you know if I had half a brain I would have stuck that post behind a cut instead of deleting it. But then again if I thought logically, I guess it wouldn't be me!

::pets you:: :-D

Or you could repost it behind a cut. It's still early on the 20th here, and it was all shiny and pretty. *g*

Is it okay this morning? The friends-page-too-wide was, as Bev pointed out, an image that was too big. But the random other changes -- that happens once in a while while the LJ management is tinkering with their program or servers or something. For about six hours last night, the icon-column filled up about 2/3rds of my screen, and the entry-column was squashed into the remaining 1/3rd. Very frustrating and somewhat difficult to read, but I've learned that, if we wait a while, it usually gets fixed. Of course, "a while" was once about 48 hours, so it can be an exercise in patience, but it's easier than running off and making a "fix this please" post to the LJ team.

There was a graphics heavy meme that someone posted last night, which did the same to me. Once I moved that user into my temp filter, all was well... :-)

Filters? What filters? How do they work? LOL -- I'm so hopeless with technology!

Yep, it was fine once Jess changed her gorgeous greeting to you! Hope you had a great day, buddy ... did the financing come through?
