Some Days Are Special

What a terrific day this has been for me. I think you all know how much I love to write, how much joy I get out of the process of story telling, both in terms of the writing and the response from readers. When you write to entertain, it's treasure indeed to know the readers have enjoyed a story, been moved to tears or laughter by it ...

Today, I finished my first original novel! I took part in a 3-Day Novel Writing Contest, in which the work had to be written between midnight last Friday night and midnight tonight. I finished at around noon today. It's 125 pages and over 38,000 words ... yeah, I know, a pretty short 'novel', LOL, but given the time limits, the organizers say the 'average' is about 100 pages, double-spaced, so I'm in that window. It's called ANG and the protoganist is a long distance trucker, and it's about love, redemption, murder, family, friendship, there's a grumpy angel (who is NOT the ANG of the title) -- LOL, a lot like my fanfic! ::grins::

As if that wasn't amazing enough for one day, I just got notification from the LMFA Committee about choosing which nominations I'd like to confirm on the ballot this year. Yep, choosing. Last year, I think I had a total of eight nominations, which was great. This year, it's 18, which has TOTALLY blown me away. I've never had so many, nor ever expected so many.

THANK YOU, all of you, who nominated stories I've written. You have given me great joy today, and I'm very touched and honoured by your appreciation.

That's wonderful; congratulations on all counts!

Thanks, Jane. I know you're a pro writer, right? This is such a milestone for me. I've always been so intimidated by the idea of creating original characters the reader would really care about. I've shared the draft with a few people and I'm really encouraged that the story works and that they do care about Ang!

I'm sort of a pro writer :;g:: Three novels as e-books and the solo one is coming out as a paperback soon, but the sales are in the hundreds and I'm not exactly J K Rowling ;-)

But I put myself down as a writer on the data forms that came home from school today so that's something!

Wishing you luck on it! ::hugs::

Thanks, Jess. Was just an amazing day. I'm still dazed (could be I still need to catch up on more sleep, LOL!). But it all feels really good.

Congratulations on the novel!!!! Way to go! And the noms. I got a lot more than I expected too - around ten or or so including a collaboration one with Victoria for An everchaging Life which I'm very pleased about.

What wonderful news you've given me : ))))

Hey, congrats to you, too, buddy, on your nominations! The LMFA folks are so great to do this for us all every year. Feels so good!

The speed writing novel contest is an awesome challenge! I know many who try it but never finish. Your powers of concentration and creativity are just inspiring. And of COURSE you would get so many LMFA noms - the stories you produced this year alone were so good and diverse in content. Many likely didn't make the deadline for noms (moonridge stories?) but will certianly show up in next year's group.

Well, do you take a writing vacation now? Well deserved, I might add. Congrats!

Roslyn, thanks, sweetie! I'm feeling SO good about the novel! I've shared the draft with a few people and it really works! They really liked it! And the noms, wow, just wow. You're right, a lot of the Moonridge stories didn't make the cutoff date this year, but PatKs did and they were several of those nominated, which was really neat!

No writing vacation, though. I've got two H&M stories I've promised in advance of the Nov auction and there's a TS story that's nagging at me, too! And now I'll have Ang whispering in my head wondering where his next story is, LOL! So much fun.

Whoa! Well I've written three novels but they all took me months! Kudos! Are you going to try and get it published?

And huge congrats on the noms.

The winning novel will be published, and none of the contenders can be published anywhere until the winner is announced. Clearly, I hope to win (::grins:: ) If not, though, yeah, I'll try to get it published. I'd really like to sell it as a tv movie or series concept.

Congratulations on both the LMFA awards and the novel! Three days - that's really impressive!
Sep. 4th, 2007 11:55 pm (UTC)
Well, it's only 125 pages double spaced, not really a novel by length standards, but I feel really good about it! Thanks, hon, for the congrats! Much appreciated.

A three day novel, huh? Makes a change from a three volume one ... *g*

Seriously, that is one hades of an achievement - and goddess, I wish I could write that fast (and to your level of quality while doing so!)

well done on the nominations too. Well deserved, I say. Well deserved!

Thanks, Pythia. LOL, I've come a ways since you first coached me on character development and motivation! I feel so lucky that you wrote back and were so generous, taught me so much, encouraged me to keep writing. Let me know if you'd like to see the novel draft and I'll send it along. I know you're swamped though, and don't have a lot of time.

Wow! A three day novel? That is quite an accomplishment! Congratulations! Do we get to read it? Ever?

*twirls you*

Of course, you got a pile of LMFA nominations! All well deserved!
